Visual Designer

New York, United States Full-time

Vector is an eclectic team of designers, developers and digital marketers. We don’t do things because they’re the trendy thing to do, we do them because we believe in them. They’re the right idea, for the right client, at the right time and we believe deeply in everything we do.

We share a desire for quality and innovation across all three of our core services and the ambition to exploit each other’s strengths to create something greater than our individual abilities. We’re constantly collaborating and learning from each other.

This desire is not top down. Everyone at Vector is passionate about their craft and we celebrate each other’s strengths to solve complex problems for our clients, partners, and each other.

Make your mark.

This position will give you the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with world-class developers, digital marketers and of course fellow designers as we solve exciting challenges for our clients. Expect to be challenged on a daily basis to think in new ways and bring new insight to our clients and each other. You’ll be encouraged to bring your own point of view to our work and office environment.

Most importantly, we’re here to support you, we’re here to help bring you into our work environment, define where you fit into our culture, the kinds of things you’d like to work on, and the skills you’d like to add to your own knowledge base.

You should have around 5-7 years of experience in design (ideally in an agency environment), a degree in Design (BA or higher) and a thorough understanding of design software and prototyping tools. More importantly though, you should share the same qualities that we do:

Empathy for your clients and fellow designers
Understanding our clients and each other goes beyond a quick googling. We believe that to truly understand our clients’ problems we must stand in their shoes, so we go deep into client workshops, research and even field trips to understand related experiences. Experience in attending or helping run client workshops is a big bonus. Internal leadership qualities are also very important as you work with a variety of designers and developers to bring your work to life.

A passion for your craft
We believe that an affection and understanding of design history sets the stage for future innovation. Bringing a level of design sophistication to the online world is very important to us. It also means standing up for the value of design and always making sure it’s part of of the discussion and value that we bring to our clients. Being able to speak about design and show clients the value of what we do is crucial.

A curiosity for technology and development
Designers are inquisitive by nature, and we believe in nurturing this skill to expand our experience–where it’s asking the right questions with our clients or to ourselves. You won’t be expected to code a full website, but an interest in furthering your understanding of development, it’s limitations, and where to find new innovations is essential.

Leadership Qualities
We like designers with opinions, we also like designers that are natural leaders. Although you'll have direction we like to see our designers leading their own projects and taking the responsibility of the project on board. Direciton then becomes more about how we can push your thinking and vision further so that you're always learning new things about your craft and yourself.
